Hackney Council have made major changes to our roads By closing many local streets to through traffic it has caused more traffic congestion, pollution and disruption on our main roads. Despite the impact on residents of housing estates, on schools and nurseries lining those main roads, on businesses and on residents walking to buses trains and shops, there was no prior public consultation and relevant information has been withheld from residents. Hackney will shortly decide whether to make the road closures permanent.
Individuals have written to the council and their local MPs but no progress has been made in reversing the decision. As a last resort we commenced legal action.
We instructed a highly specialised and experienced legal team led by Bill Parry Davies of Dowse & Co - https://dowse.co.uk/2020/02/13/bill-parry-davies. Last December we applied to the High Court for a judicial review and, after obtaining permission from the Court of Appeal, our claim will shortly be going to a full trial.
We have created a Crowd Justice fundraising campaign with a target of £30,000 to help meet the legal costs and expenses. Achieving this target will allow us to pursue the claim to the final court hearing https://www.crowdjustice.com/case/horrendous-hackney-road-closures
We have a Facebook group with over 7,200 members - https://www.facebook.com/groups/319405649287761
We have a petition with over 16,000 signatures calling for the reversal of the road closures and for public consultation.
We want to reverse the road closures until a proper and thorough consultation has been concluded with residents.
